 Resumo:

I will describe recent results obtained in our group with quantum gases of chromium. We trig spin dynamics by tilting the individual spins of our samples of ultracold chromium atoms (spin 3). Interactions between the atoms lead to a spin mixing dynamics observed by Stern Gerlach analysis, between the seven Zeeman components. In a Bose Einstein condensate, we show that the dynamics results from an interplay between contact short range interactions, and long range dipolar interactions. We propose a model to understand the key role played by magnetic field gradients. In a Mott insulator state (obtained by loading the atoms in a deep optical lattice), we evidence beyond mean field effects by comparing data with numerical models.
