Resumo:
We review the evidence of the applicability of hydrodynamics in small systems and argue that it poses a challenge to the microscopic theories from which relativistic hydrodynamics is usually derived. We then argue that Gibbsian statistical mechanics, together with local Lorentz symmetry, could yield to a formulation of fluctuating hydrodynamics as a stochastic process rather than the usual gradient expansion of conservation equations. We outline the derivation, and show that in this approach the applicability of hydrodynamics is not constrained by usual requirements of many degrees of freedom and molecular chaos. Extensions of this theory to spin hydrodynamics, diffusion and curved spacetimes are discussed.
