Abstract:
Estrelas de nêutrons são os objetos mais densos do universo. Entre a superfície e o núcleo dessas estrelas existe uma fase da matéria conhecida pelo nome “pasta nuclear”. A pasta nuclear é um estado da matéria em que prótons e nêutrons se organizam em estruturas exóticas, algumas dessas semelhantes a tipos de massa, como lasanha e espaguete. A pasta nuclear não pode ser produzida em laboratórios e, logo, para estudá-la dependemos de uma combinação de modelos teóricos, simulações numéricas e observações astrofísicas. Neste seminário, discutirei simulações numéricas de pasta nuclear e o que aprendemos a partir delas.

Modelagem de annealing de traços de íons em minerais

Abstract:
Íons acelerados artificialmente ou emitidos espontaneamente em decaimentos radioativos deixam trilhas de defeitos (traços) ao interagirem com redes cristalinas de minerais e outros materiais. A rede danificada pode ser parcialmente ou totalmente restaurada por aquecimentos, processo chamado de annealing. Esta característica faz com que minerais sejam utilizados, por exemplo, em estudos termocronológicos (inferência de histórias térmicas em escala de tempo geológico) e no estudo do armazenamento de rejeitos radioativos a longo prazo. Nas duas aplicações se faz necessário modelar quantitativamente a cinética de restauração da rede. Neste seminário, apresentaremos técnicas experimentais e de modelagem utilizadas para quantificar a cinética de annealing dos traços. Discutiremos também as dificuldades para a aplicação dos modelos em escalas de tempo de milhões de anos.
