Ivan Helmuth Bechtold
Bachelor’s in Physics at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina – UFSC (1997), master’s in Physics at Universidade de São Paulo (2000), and PhD. in Physics at Universidade de São Paulo (2004). Associate professor at Universidade Federal de Santa Catarina since 2006. The research activities are focused on the field of condensed matter physics by investigating organic and hybrid materials for application in optoelectronic devices such as OLEDs (organic light-emitting diodes), OFETs (organic field-effect transistors), OPVs (organic photovoltaics), and biosensors. Among the materials are liquid crystals, polymers, small molecules, and organometallic complexes. Particular interest in nanostructuring processes, surface treatments, and thermal annealing as a way to modify and control the photophysics and electro-optical properties of the materials applied to devices. Coordinator of the Laboratory of Organic Optoelectronics and Anisotropic Systems (LOOSA). President of the Brazilian Materials Research Society, SBPMat (2024 and 2025). Director of Finance and Assets of the Brazilian Materials Research Society, SBPMat (2022 and 2023). Scientific Director of the Brazilian Materials Research Society, SBPMat (2020 and 2021). Representative of the Ibero-American Society of Complex Fluids at the International Liquid Crystal Society (ILCS) – 2020 to 2022. Coordinator of the Postgraduate Program in Physics at UFSC (09/2015 to 09/2021). Representative of the Postgraduate Chamber on the UFSC University Council (09/2020 to 09/2021).
