Roberto Cid Fernandes Junior

Holds a Bachelor’s degree in Physics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul (1986), a master’s degree in Physics from the Federal University of Rio Grande do Sul, partially developed in the Astronomic and Geophysical Institute of the University of São Paulo (1989), and a Ph.D. from the Institute of Astronomy, University of Cambridge, UK (1995). Performed post-doctoral and sabbatical internships at UFRGS (1996), the Johns Hopkins University (2000, as a Gemini fellow), and the Astrophysics Institute of Andalucia (2011, senior internship – CAPES). Currently works as an associate professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina, where he teaches physics and astrophysics. Coordinated the Postgraduate Program in Physics at UFSC from 2008 to 2011. Has experience in the area of Astronomy, with emphasis in Extragalactic Astrophysics, working mainly on the following topics: active galaxies, stellar populations, large databases. Developed the spectral synthesis code STARLIGHT and the database www.starlight.ufsc.br, containing detailed data for 1 million galaxies from the SDSS, public tools used widely in the international community. Has more than 2 thousand citations, and H factor = 27 according to ISI. (Researcher ID M-7334-2014)
