Raymundo Baptista

Associate Professor at the Federal University of Santa Catarina (since 1996), holds a degree in Electrical Engineering (Electronics) at the Federal University of Bahia (1985), a Master Degree in Astronomy at the University of São Paulo (1980), and a Doctorate in Astronomy at the University of São Paulo (1992); has international experience with post-doctoral studies at the Space Telescope Science Institute/USA (1993-1995), at the University of St. Andrews/UK (1995-1996) and at the Southern Observatory for Astronomical Research (SOAR, 2006), and international observational experience at the Hubble Space Telescope, European Southern Observatory in La Silla, and observatories in Mauna Kea and Canary Islands. Coordinated the Physics Graduate Program at UFSC (2000-2002), and was member of the Research Chamber and the Post-graduation Chamber of UFSC (2000-2002). Was member of the Telescope Allocation Committees of OPD, SOAR/Blanco/CFHT and Gemini observatories (for several years), member of the SOAR Scientific Advisory Committee (2008-2010), and of the SOAR Board of Directors (2010-2020). Has experience in the area of Astronomy, with emphasis on Stellar Astrophysics, working mainly on the following topics: interacting and outbursting binary stars, accretion physics, spectroscopy, high-speed photometry and indirect imaging (astrotomography).
